Ban on high global warming potential refrigerants coming into force from 2020
Defra, the Environment Agency and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency have announced a ban on refrigerants with a global warming potential (GWP) greater than 2500, effective from 1st January 2020.
Commonly used refrigerants subject to the ban include, but are not limited to, R404A and R507A. Although the ‘fresh’ use of these refrigerants will be banned from 2020, the use of reclaimed, or recycled, variants will be exempt until 2030.
Members are advised to check their systems for the affected refrigerants and take the necessary steps to comply with the new legislation. Further information is provided in the guidance link – F-gas Regulation business guidance 2019 final
