Yearsley kicks off construction on UK’s largest coldstore
Work has begun on FSDF member Yearsley Logistics’ new coldstore in Peterborough – set to be the largest in the UK, reports Peterborough Today.
Construction at the Gateway Peterborough at Great Haddon was first mooted six years ago but was put on ice because of a market downturn.
The company says initial investment is £10m but that will rise to £65m when the 150,000 pallet scheme is finished.
The depot, known as SuperHub South, is expected to be operational in August this year.
A combination of conventional warehouse systems, as well as automated 35m high bay crane store will make it a cost effective solution for all customers’ requirements, whatever the size, Yearsley says.
A spokeswoman told Peterborough Today: “We can confirm work has officially started on the first phase of what will be the largest cold store facility in the UK.
Director Tim Moran said: “In the past five years the business has gone from strength to strength, with turnover increasing by 46%. To continue this momentum Yearsley Logistics is expanding its network, and Peterborough is in the ideal location to do so. It will strategically serve all major ports and Southern England, minimising food miles and increasing operational efficiency.”
