Construction has started at FSDF member Samworth Brothers’ new distribution hub.Samworth Brothers, the company behind Walkers pies and Soreen malt loaves, is building a 165,000 sq ft distribution centre for its in-house logistics division. Samworth Brothers Supply Chain SBSC, the company’s distribution arm, hopes the new site in Scudamore Lane, at Leicester Distribution Park, the former home of British Shoe Corporation, will be operational in the autumn. FSDF member Samworth Brothers has bought West Cornwall Pasty Company in a multi-million pound deal. The acquisition includes West Cornwall Pasty Company’s 33 fully owned outlets in rail stations and high streets across the country, as well as 19 franchised shops in Moto motorway service stations. Matthew Pickering of FSDF member Samworth Brothers Supply Chain was named the overall winner of the inaugural FTA Driver of the Year 2016 competition in London Wednesday 2 November. Matthew won the Truck Driver of the Year 44 tonne competition sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Trucks back in July, beating 19 other finalists.
